Lyptus is a "planned growth" wood promoted by Weyerhauser Corp, which says it represents a new concept in forest management. A premium-grade hardwood, Lyptus is grown in South America on highly productive plantations, interspersed with reintroduced indigenous trees to preserve native ecosystems. Wood is produced using proprietary technology in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner, according to Weyerhauser.
Many factors distinguish Lyptus from other hardwood species. A natural hybrid of Eucalyptus grandis and E. urophylla, Lyptus thrives in the warm climate of Brazil, permitting harvesting in just 14 to 16 years as opposed to 50 to 70 years in colder regions.
